The Story...

Twelve years ago, in the beginning of  2001, I was plenty of time because I just finished my study and don’t have a job yet. With some friends in my village we are agree to build a cage to raise local chicken. We ask the land owner, thanks God we‘ve got permission. Then together we cut down bamboo trees near the river, and it’s FREE.  We are applying for loan at “Koperasi” in my village for the fund. Our target is we can repay the loan & each member of the group can take a couple of mature chicken so they can raise them at their own place. Again, thanks God our plan are success. As time goes by, many of us are getting busy with our own activity, such as working and studying. And also the land owner will build his house so we had to stop raising this local chicken in about 1.5 years.

A couple of mature chicks I got from our group cage start laying egg, so I also start to build a cage for the chicken. While these chickens grow up I build the other cage. I really enjoy this process of raising chicken and still get the feeling until now.

Few months later my brother in law gave me a better rooster than I had.  Physically the descendants are getting better than before but I don’t know how they fight because I didn’t fought rooster that time. Few of my roosters were bought by my neighbor, and some of them were sold to traditional market.

In the end of year 2002 I’m working as an out-sourcing, work-hour divide in shift, for male usually got night shift so I still have enough time taking care my chicks. At the end of year 2003 I move to other institution which had different work-hours, started 6.30 a.m. until 4.00 p.m.

In the beginning of year 2004 I still tried to raise chicken as much I can do, even I bought a new rooster to upgrade the quality. Only few weeks after that, suddenly my office organizing an event out of town for 3 days, oh My God…. I was confuse, who will take care my chickens?? I didn’t have much choices, I decided to sell all my chickens to the market, even the new rooster. I think that time it’s the best way to do.

There is only left an empty cage of 6 chamber, never heard rooster sound in the morning, never heard chicks voice, never smell the aroma of bran brewed in hot water, and will never bathing rooster in the morning again, huffffhhhhh……

Seven years later, 2011, I’m married, already have almost two kids, thanks God, I still have enough ability to fulfill my family needs. But how is about the next 5 years? 10 years? 20 years? I discuss with my wife, she had the same opinion, we were would have to invest. I said I want to raise chickens again, fortunately office hour start from 7.30 a.m. so I have a few time taking care my chickens. My wife said ok, might be she knew that there is her relative who are able to fulfill their needs from raising chickens, why we were not?

Now, there are some occupants in the cage of 6 chambers, rooster sound in the morning, chick voice, smell the aroma of bran brewed by hot water, and will bathing rooster in the weekend again if I had enough time because there are many things I had to scheduling. My focus is preparing the primary cage in my little farm. Many cages needed most is single cage for hen & her chickens, also for young roosters. I realize I don’t have much leisure times, this is the big problem that I have, make all that cages in once, so I must manage my time after work-hours and in weekend. From now at least I need more than 3 single cages. I prefer to make the cages than buy it. I’m not that so stingy but few things make me decided doing that. First the quality, second the price, third my budget is not much enough. With the less amount of money I spend I can make single cages which have better quality than buy it. Well, I can’t make any target when I can finish all this process making the primary cage, as I have leisure time I will doing as much as I can, but I must do that as fast as I can, hahhh ?!

Why I didn’t ask someone to build the primary cage? For the first plan, yes I would because I want to build a big & modern cage, but then I decided to make the simple one, I will made it from bamboo, so I myself will make it & finish it. And also I have to spent some of the budget to build the primary cage to other things which much important. That’s way I need to save the budget.

I wish I have day-off for a month…..
